The Morgan County Emergency Communications Network, was first organized at our first ever "Organization" meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. At that point our group was the "Morgan County ARES Network". After that meeting we kept holding meetings, and along the way we formally changed our name to the "Morgan County Emergency Communications Network". Every meeting we held after the first ever meeting was making more progress toward the goal of a completely independent communication network, and we where also gaining the man power required for such a task as well.
MCECN provides emergency communications when nothing else works for first responders of Morgan County its residents. During an emergency, we help first responders communicate with each other and the public and help residents send messages to nearby or out-of-state family members.
The Morgan County Emergency Communications Network, Inc., a 501(c)3, charitable nonprofit corporation, was organized on June 30, 2020. MCECN exists to provide last resort communications to the Morgan County, West Virginia community in the event of a significant disaster that eliminates conventional cell, phone, radio and internet communications.
MCECN organizes, trains and exercises an extended network of amateur radio operators and a sophisticated physical network of repeaters, mobile units, base stations and a dedicated mobile communications center designed for major catastrophes.
Our system is an integral component of the Morgan County Emergency Operations Center, feeding on-site disaster information into the center and providing reliable, out-of-area communications for first responders, hospitals, the Red Cross, residents and businesses.
MCECN enjoys a warm relationship with the Morgan County Commission and the county’s first responder community.
